Synopsis

Naples, Italy: An idealistic cigarette smuggler, Luca, runs into problems when a sadistic drug dealing gangster from France decides to muscle his way into operations. As he tries to wipe out the competition, all hell breaks loose and the bodies start piling up! Luca joins forces with rival smugglers and the local mafia to counteract the power play, which only increases the body count until the explosive gun powder and gut bursting conclusion!

About the Director

Lucio Fulci (1927–1996) spent almost twenty years making comedies, westerns, and giallo thrillers. After George Romero's Dawn of the Dead became a huge international hit and was released in Italy with Argento's help, producers asked Fulci to make an unofficial sequel. That film, Zombi 2 (1979), quickly made Fulci known as a horror director, thanks to its famous shark-versus-zombie scene and practical gore effects which amazed fans of the genre.
After that, Fulci made a series of surreal horror films such as City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, and The House by the Cemetery, which arguably abandoned traditional plots in favor of memorable scenes of violence and a sense of cosmic dread. The Beyond, which centers on a portal to hell hidden in a Louisiana hotel, is recognized as an example of just how abstract a horror film can be while still delivering a strong impact.
During his lifetime, mainstream critics dismissed Fulci's films while censorship boards in the UK and other countries targeted them. Now his work is regarded as among the most creative horror movies of that time. Fulci used gore not just to shock but to tell stories visually. For collectors, he stands for Italian horror at its boldest and most influential.
